Costa Dorada Holidays are going to represent great value in 2009 compared to other years, the only blot on the landscape is the exchange rate between the pound and the Euro. However, I believe the situation will improve a little, but not getting back to the 1.40 Euros to the Pound of a few years ago, but I do believe the discounts offered on Costa Dorada Holidays will go some way to making up for this. So if you do decide to visit the Costa Dorada, where are you going to stay? Lets start by having a quick over view of the resorts.

PortAventura

PortAventura is fast becoming one of the worlds premier theme parks. The mind blowing mix of white knuckle rides, fantastic shows, and jaw dropping firework displays makes this one of the most exciting places in Europe, let alone Spain.

On top of this the PortAventura has a aquatic water park that has to be seen to be believed. The water slides and rides draw day trippers from all over Spain’s east coast.

Salou

Salou is a great place for those of you that enjoy a relaxed holiday, this is not to say that the nights are not lively, because they are. I have seen more firework displays in Salou than any other part of Spain.

The resort itself is small and compact, which makes it very easy to get around. The beaches are glorious and very child friendly. If you like your water sports you will be spoilt for choice in Salou.

Cambrils

Cambrils is a pretty little fishing village that oozes charm. Its pristine beach is washed by calm blue seas.

If you sea food and dishes made from local produce then you are in for a retreat. There is a good mix of restaurants around the harbour and in the lanes, that cater for all tastes and pockets.

For me one of the big attractions of Cambrils is the amount of history in the area. Tarragona is an ancient city that dates back to Roman times.  Its city walls over look the sea and its streets are filled with ancient artifacts. It is well worth taking time to explore Tarragona and the ruins of its Roman amphitheatre.

Other Resorts

There are many other towns and resorts that we wil be looking at in the future such as, La Pineda, Torredembarra, Sitges, and Vilanova I a Geltru.

Kids’ Club

Every all-inclusive Costa Blanca family holiday resort provides this. Most are “friendly small clubs”, colourful places with one or two rooms with playthings and TV and possibly video games for children ages 4-12. A caring and friendly staff are always there to supply them with plenty of care and attention.

Babes And Tots?

Increasingly all inclusive Costa Blanca holiday resort are nowadays offering nurseries and baby care for clients traveling with their infants or toddlers.

Tarragona the old Roman capital of Spain is the main town on the Costa Dorada, however the main holiday towns are Salou, Cambrils, and La Pineda. Another town of note is Sitges, probably the chicest town on the Costa Dorada.

As pretty as these towns are it is not the main reason people holiday here, it’s the beaches. The Costa Dorada has over 200km of beautiful beaches; it is not hard to understand why the Spanish named it the ‘Gold Coast‘. The beach at Salou can get over crowded at the height of the season, but it is backed by a palm-lined promenade and it has all the amenities you could wish for. If you prefer your beaches a little bit quieter then just head to Cambrils. Cambrils has nine kilometres of the most pristine beaches you will ever see, so you will never struggle for space at this wonderful resort.

The beaches at Sitges deserve a special mention and not just because thee are eight of them. The thing you have to remember about Sitges is that it is a lot more cosmopolitan than nearly any other town in the Mediterranean. Of eight beaches in Sitges one is reserved for gay sun-seekers, and another two are reserved for nudists. As you can see, no matter how you like to take the sun, there is a beach for you.

The Costa Dorada is also a great place for adrenaline junkies, apart from all the water sports and out door activities the Costa Dorada is also home to one of Europe’s largest theme parks. Port Aventura is a fantastic day out; this theme park has everything you could want to get the pulse racing.

Port Aventura is split up into different themed zones; Polynesia, Imperial China, Aztec Mexico, the Wild West, and the Med. Each zone has its own star ride including; the Dragon Khan (with its eight loops), Hurakan Condor (free faller), the Stampida (runaway mine train), and the Tutuki Splash (water ride). Apart from all the white knuckle stuff there is also up to 100 live shows a day. So, if you get the chance, Port Aventura is well worth a visit.

The Costa Dorada has something to keep every type of holiday-maker happy. Whether you are single, a couple, or a family, whether you like quiet holidays just laying on the beach, activity holidays, or you want to spend your nights partying, there is a resort on the Costa Dorada to suit your needs.

You see that’s the thing with Spain, the majority of people go there year after year, they visit the same resorts, stay in the same hotels, and hardly, if ever, leave the beach. The sad thing about this is there is so much more to Spain than sangria and paella. This vast country has a beautiful and diverse landscape, from the green, flower covered valleys of Galicia, to the arid and searingly hot Sierra Nevada, the Spanish landscape is always changing as you travel through it. Having said that, how many of us do travel around a country?

Which brings me back to my original point, most of us can name the main the three Costa’s without much trouble, but after that most people would struggle, and not too many years back I was one of them.
